About “The Dogs & The Guy”

Hi, my name is Blake Slayton, and I am the Owner & Head Trainer at TwoDogsAndAGuy Dog Training LLC. As you can see to the right, dogs have been a part of my life for quite some time. From family pets growing up to working professionally with dogs in Wisconsin, I’ve always been surrounded by what I consider to be the best animals out there—dogs!

I grew up in Wisconsin, spending countless hours outdoors fishing and hunting. When I wasn’t outside, you could usually find me playing sports like wrestling or baseball. Eventually, I headed to the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Communications. While there, I also tried new experiences, including coed cheerleading.

After graduation, I moved to North Carolina to begin my career in recruitment and sales. That’s also where I got my first dog of my own, Reggie (light brown, pictured). Following my time in North Carolina, I returned to Wisconsin to continue my career in business development. While I enjoyed that work, I knew it was time for a change of pace. That’s when I pivoted toward something I truly loved—dogs. I was fortunate enough to receive a position with a Chicago-based training company (highly recommend—just ask if I’m not in your area!) where I focused on helping dogs with behavioral issues.

As much as I loved that work, I had always dreamed of living in the mountains. In 2018, I moved to Colorado, which I’ve been lucky enough to call home ever since. For the past few years, I’ve worked in Cybersecurity Project Management while continuing to pursue my passion for dog training by helping friends and family. Now that I’ve put down roots in Colorado, I’m excited to take on more clients and help as many dogs and families as I can. I look forward to meeting you and your pup!

Now, about the dogs! On the side, you’ll see photos of my current pups and some from the past who helped shape me into the trainer I am today.

  • Lucky (white): My very first dog and quite the troublemaker. After multiple escapes from the house and yard, Lucky gave me my first taste of training. She’s a big reason I especially enjoy working with “problem” pups.

  • Tucker (black lab): My dog during high school. From duck hunting adventures to lazy days on the couch, Tucker was truly special.

  • Reggie (light brown with a white chest): My first dog as an adult and the main reason I got into professional training. After being attacked as a puppy, Reggie developed major social issues. Helping him through those struggles inspired me to take my training career seriously. Today, he’s done a complete 180 and lives a very social, happy life.

  • Gilbert (large black shepherd): My second dog, adopted after COVID canceled a sports trip. Gilbert is shy at first, but once he opens up, he’s one of the most loving and energetic dogs you’ll ever meet. He and Reggie make up the “Two” in TwoDogsAndAGuy.

  • Finn (smaller black pup): Originally my wife’s dog, though you might have to ask him who he prefers now. Finn has picked up many of Reggie’s best qualities and is Gilbert’s best friend. The three of them are inseparable—you’ll almost never see one without the others!
